Objectives: To determine accurately and at the shortest time, the characteristics and behavior of earthquake(s) of Mw 6.0 magnitude or over, having the potential of affecting settlement center(s) in our country by causing losses of many lives and giving damages or to carry out urgent monitoring studies in extraordinary situations when many earthquakes of magnitude smaller than Mw 6.0 storm in a region causing public discomfort, by carrying out required in situ measurements to determine the location of destructive aftershock(s) and communicating first evaluations and the results to the authorities and to the public, also investigating the causes of the phenomena originating from the basement and causing damages at settlement centers after an earthquake.
Anticipated Outcome: Investigation of the earthquake activity behavior by a seismologic and GPS (global positioning systems) monitoring network urgently installed and operated immediately after an earthquake is extremely important in evaluation of the risk within the region. The networks installed at the shortest time at frequent intervals within certain geometric figures offer valuable information about the physics of the fracture during the earthquake, propagation and diminishing information on the waves causing the damage and acquaintance of their spectral characteristics. Besides, information will also be obtained on causes of the damage at settlement centers originating from the basement. At earthquakes causing surface fracture, determination and mapping of surface fractures and liquidation areas if any will provide important information for risk determination at the region. Besides these observations, all kinds of data collected by many satellite systems at international scale will provide very useful information to be used as a base map for risk analyses and will let the authorities and the public to take urgent measures on earthquake dimensions.
