BLACKSEA HAZARD NETWORK (BlackSeaHazNet)

Objectives:
To develop a long term research cooperation through coordinated joint program for exchange of data, know-how and scientists. The partnership in experimental and theoretical aspects of geophysics will be focused on a creation of fundamentals of a Complex Program for investigation the possibilities to forecast earthquake's time, hypocentre, magnitude and intensity using reliable precursors, monitoring the following parameters:

  • Geophysical and seismological variability over the South-East Europe;
  • Water sources and their Radon, Helium, and other gases concentrations;
  • Crust temperature;
  • Electromagnetic field variations under, on and above Earth surface;
  • Satellite monitoring of meteorological parameters, including earthquake clouds;
  • Electrical charge distributions and variations in ionospheric parameters;
  • Near-space monitoring, aimed to detect and exclude the external influences (i.e., those of Sun and Interplanetary medium variations, Cosmic rays) from the meaningful signal of the solid Earth;
  • Biological precursors. .

Scope :

TÜBİTAK MRC Earth and Marine Sciences Institute will carry out the following studies in cooperation with the other project partner organizations:

  • To summarize the existing regional real time data acquisition systems for preliminary archiving, testing, visualization and analyses of data;
  • To develop tools for risks assessment and forecasting of hazardous events;
  • To prepare a proposal for Unified real time data acquisition system for archiving, testing, visualizing and analyzing the data, forecasting and estimations of natural and anthropogenic risks with simultaneously working branches in every Partner's country;
  • To organize a training seminar/workshop in Turkey on Regional Acquisition System for archiving, testing, visualizing and analyzing the data and discussion of technological capacities and results of new established bi- and multi- partnership. .

Expected Results:

Proposed regional network can be considered as a first step in creation of a wide interdisciplinary scientific consortium capable of formulation of more adequate paradigm of Climate variability, Climatic change and Earth Seismic processes and the actual problem of their forecast. The exchange of people, methods for data analysis, different approaches, models, etc. is expected to improve the current knowledge and to build up new concepts, models etc. Results will be reported and discussed in the workshops and regional training seminars following the principle of brain-storming.
