Active Tectonics Research Laboratory Determination of the paleo- and present seismicity and future seismic risk potential of fault systems is only possible by utilization of contemporary techniques supporting multidisciplinary studies. Recognition of fault systems, having high seismic potential is possible through determination of historical information by paleo-seismology, revision of earthquake catalogues and determination of earthquake activities in the historical era followed by a joint evaluation of all these information with contemporary geologic, geophysical, geochemical and geodesic data. The institute establishes collaborations with its stakeholders to assume a leading role in active tectonics by the contemporary technologies it uses, its multidisciplinary experience and know-how in this area.
