Screening, isolation and identification of industrial enzyme producing microorganisms from different ecosystems, the production of desired enzymes by fermentation process, the development of novel enzyme purification and immobilization methods, the exploration of new methodologies for the stabilization of enzymes against extreme conditions are among some of the main activities of the unit. The major objectives of the unit are the investigation of structure-function relationships in proteins by using proteomics and site-directed mutagenesis approaches, the development of enzyme production processes by recombinant micro-organisms, and the establishment of a Resource Centre for Industrial Enzyme Producing Microorganisms in GEBI.

The Unit consists of  two laboratories;
