This TA activity of the SALVADORE project of IFM-GEOMAR of Germany will give the opportunity to EMSI to collect high-quality seismological data for the monitoring and evaluation of ongoing seismic activity in the Sea of Marmara. IFM-GEOMAR will provide high-technology Ocean Bottom Seismometer (OBS) recording systems and the necessary training. The TA activities are mainly planned to take place in 2006.

Land based seismological monitoring combined with marine seismological observations (OBS) will greatly enhance the capabilities of the EMSI and thus will enable it to produce critical seismicity information that would be used by both governmental and public agencies of the Turkish and European Earthquake Research Centers for seismic hazard reduction and mitigation. Accurate earthquake hypocenters and focal mechanisms in near real time, digital seismic waveforms, and earthquake catalogs would be named amongst the deliverables.
